The Complete Idiot's Guide

Ramadan in Arabic = رمضان
It is the ninth month of Hijri (the Islamic calendar), in which Muslims around the world fast from Fagr (sunrise) till Maghrib (sunset) every day for one month.

The beginning of Ramadan is determined by the sighting of the new moon, and it's end is determined by the sighting of the new moon as well.
The end of Ramadan is called Eid El Fitr, in which Arab Muslims mark the end of fasting by eating a sweet pastry called Ka'ak.

Some people like to name their sons Ramadan, which is a common name for men in Egypt.
